Q1: What is the basic information?
A1:
CAS No. 54965-21-8
Molecular Formula: C₁₂H₁₅N₃O₂S
Appearance: White to pale yellow crystalline powder, odorless. Very slightly soluble in water and ethanol, soluble in glacial acetic acid, dilute mineral acids, and chloroform/DMF (slightly soluble). Melting point ≈ 208–212°C.
Q2: What is its pharmacological action?
A2: Benzimidazole broad-spectrum nematicide (also effective against some tapeworms/trematodes). Binds to β-tubulin in worms → inhibits microtubule polymerization → blocks glucose uptake and ATP production → energy depletion, paralysis, and death of worms (especially adults). High efficacy against adult worms, also effective against some larvae (migration stage). Partially metabolized in ruminants to albendazole sulfoxide (still active).
Q3: What are its indications?
A3: Broad-spectrum deworming for cattle, sheep, pigs, and poultry—gastrointestinal nematodes (Haemonchus, Ostertagia, Trichostrongylus, Oesophagostomum, Strongyloides, etc.), lungworms (Dictyocaulus), some tapeworms (Moniezia), liver flukes (high dose/compound).
Q4: What are the storage requirements?
A4: Sealed, store at 0–6°C.
